Depending on the results of the risk assessment, the companies are obliged to train at least 5% of employees as fire safety officers (Brandschutzhelfer). According to DGUV Information 205-023, companies can train their fire safety officers themselves if a fire safety expert (fachkundige Person) is appointed as a responsible person for the training. According to DGUV Information 205-023 a fire safety expert (fachkundige Person) is someone with relevant professional training or recent professional experience in fire safety. The person must receive regular fire safety training. This includes, for example:

• Fire Wardens (Brandschutzbeauftragte)
• Occupational safety specialists (SIFA) with appropriate fire safety training
• Members of the fire brigade
• University degree in fire safety

What is your responsibility?

Based on a risk assessment, you must decide what additional training should be provided. It is your responsibility to carry out this training and to inform employees about the company's fire protection measures and the function and operation of the existing fire protection systems. Training in accordance with DGUV Information 205-023 includes a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises.
