Electrical accidents are uncommon, but when they do occur, the outcome is usually severe. Electricity is associated with damage to property and human health, both directly and indirectly. An electric shock can cause cardiac arrest, nervous system damage, and electric burns. Electric shock can indirectly cause accidents such as falls from heights. What many do not know is that electricity is also the leading cause of fires.
Safety note: In this course, we will focus on alternating current in the low voltage range (<1000 V). Hazards related to direct current are not covered here. The goal of this training is to increase general safety awareness. It is not intended for electricians, who must receive extended training.
