Corrosives are among the most common chemicals in the workplace. Most of them are either acids or bases. Common examples are sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, ammonia, and sodium hydroxide. The hazards associated with corrosives are often underestimated. Relatively small splashes may cause blindness. Chemical skin burns have similar symptoms to a thermal burn. If a large skin area is affected, it may result in shock, unconsciousness, and in the worst case, death.
